The topic of the project is about methods of measuring the quality of water and make it visible in a whole different way. The approach is a method from the sciences of the biology. Therefore little animals called Daphnien are taken to deliver the informations. A interessting characteristic of the water flea is that he reacts on the quality of water. The better the quality of the water. the more active they are. Therefore one little water flea is placed under a electronic microscope. To ensure a steady movement of the animal, a LED is installed on every side of the jar. Another characteristic of the animal is that they react on light and always swim to the source of the light. So if the animal swims on one side of the jar, the opposite LED is turned on, and the water flea turns arround and swims on the other side. So the movement of the animal can be recorded through the microscope. A software made in Processing translates the movement in a visual context. So the movement of the animal is displayed on a screen behind a aquarium with water in it. The animal now paints glowing dots on the screen. It is also capaple to control the pitch, balance and treble of a soundsample through its movements. So the animal is able to control the whole system. The spectator now can read the quality of the water through a visual and acoustic staging, produced by the animal in realtime.
